Idris Hanan and Avin Ibrahim elected Co-Presidents of Free Media Union

The Seventh Conference of the Free Media Union elected Avin Ibrahim and Idris Hanan as the new co-presidency of the union, in addition to electing 23 members to the General Council.

The Seventh Conference of the Free Media Union commenced this morning with wide participation from journalists at the Mohammed Sheikho Center for Culture and Arts in the city of Qamishlo.

After the speeches and the reading of congratulatory messages on the occasion of the Seventh Conference, a committee of five members was elected to manage the conference proceedings, and the conference was closed to the media.

Some amendments were made to the internal regulations of the Free Media Union, which consist of three sections and 25 articles, following discussions.

Elections were held by secret ballot to elect a new co-presidency for the Free Media Union, as well as 23 members for the General Council. Twenty-seven candidates were nominated for the General Council.

After counting the votes, Idris Hanan and Avin Ibrahim were elected as the new co-presidency of the Free Media Union, while 23 members were elected to the General Council, representing all regions: 13 members from Al-Jazira, 3 members from Aleppo, 5 members from Raqqa, Tabqa, and Deir ez-Zor, and 2 members from the Euphrates region.
