Early Wednesday morning, areas in Southern Syria witnessed a series of Israeli airstrikes targeting military sites in Quneitra and the Daraa countryside, resulting in violent explosions heard throughout the region, coinciding with intense Israeli air activity in the skies.

The strikes targeted several sites, most notably the 175th Regiment near the city of Izra, Tal al-Mal north of Daraa, and Tal al-Sha'ar in the vicinity of Quneitra. The human toll resulting from the strikes is not yet known.

These attacks come after two rockets were fired from the western countryside of Daraa towards the Golan Heights, according to the Israeli army on Tuesday evening.

Israel announced that it had detected two rockets fired from Syrian territory toward the Hisban area in the Golan Heights, triggering sirens in border areas, according to the Jerusalem Post.

The Israeli public broadcaster Kan quoted military sources as saying that the rockets were fired from the Daraa area in Southern Syria.

The Israeli newspaper Walla reported that the Israeli army's northern command believes that members of Hamas based in Syria fired the rockets with direct encouragement from the movement's leadership. Later, a Palestinian group calling itself the “Martyr Muhammad Deif Brigades” claimed responsibility for the rocket fire.
