Deir ez-Zor women link Syria's future to achieving equality, freedom
Women from Deir ez-Zor emphasized that building a new Syria can only be achieved by consolidating democratic principles and ensuring women's freedom. They also emphasized the need to extend the joint presidency system across the country, as a pivotal step toward justice and equal participation.

Women from Deir-ez-Zor canton, in the North and East Syria region, spoke to our agency about the importance of uniting the women's ranks and participating strongly in political and social life to build a democratic homeland that guarantees dignity and justice for all its sons and daughters.
In this context, Rasha Mohammed, co-chairmanship of the Vehicle Registration Directorate in Deir-ez-Zor canton, said that building the future Syria can only be achieved by activating the principles of democracy and guaranteeing women's freedom.
She emphasized the importance of implementing the co-presidency system, which is a successful model in the region of North and East Syria, as an essential step towards achieving balance and effective participation in the administration.
Rasha Mohammed emphasized that through their struggle and perseverance, women have been able to achieve real achievements and guarantee themselves effective representation in all branches of the administration and society, stressing that the next stage requires unifying the women's front and enhancing their participation in drafting Syria's new constitution.
For her part, Safaa Mohammed, an administrator at the Zenobia Women's Gathering in the town of Hajin, explained that women have become actively involved in all fields, including military, civilian and judicial, but warned of the continuing social challenges that hinder their development.
She added: “Customs, traditions and male intolerance are still an obstacle to women's emancipation in some areas, so we work through visits and direct meetings to reach women in the community to support their empowerment and expand awareness of women's rights.”
Huda al-Ghannam, co-chairmanship of the Peoples' Democratic Council in Deir-ez-Zor cantoon, highlighted the experience of women in Deir-ez-Zor and praised their strong will despite the difficulties, noting that “Syrian women, specifically in Deir-ez-Zor, have demonstrated exceptional will, as they have struggled in various fields, succeeded in reconciling their family and professional responsibilities, and proved their presence in politics, the economy and even the military field.”
She continued: “Despite the progress, her experience was not without obstacles, such as family or societal pressures that may push some women to retreat, but the majority continued to work, adhered to the self-management model, and succeeded in transferring it to their families and communities, which strengthened the presence of women in the field.”
Huda al-Ghanam emphasized the importance of community communication, saying: “Women in Deir-ez-Zor have raised their voices as free women. It is true that there are those who have not yet reached what others have reached, but we believe that through meetings, meetings and continuous support, we will be able to empower them and bring them to their deserved positions.”
