Shaddadi Intellectuals denounce Damascus' procrastination in returning IDPs
Intellectuals in the city of Shaddadi, south of al-Jazira Canton in North and East Syria, expressed their denunciation of the transitional government's procrastination in returning displaced persons to their areas. They emphasized that the return of indigenous populations is a necessary step towards achieving coexistence among all components of Syria.
The Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria has consistently declared its readiness to work toward the return of forcibly displaced persons and internally displaced persons to their homes. In this context, it has organized numerous voluntary return flights from the al-Hol and al-Arisha camps for Syrians wishing to return to their areas of origin in Syria.
However, the transitional government in Syria continues to procrastinate in fulfilling its commitments to return forcibly displaced persons and internally displaced persons to their homes, amid the continued violations committed by the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries against the population in the occupied areas.
In this context, ANHA's agency monitored the opinions of intellectuals in the city of Shaddadi, south of al-Jazira Canton. Intellectual Mahdi Al-Daghim said, "After the agreement that included the return of the displaced, the Autonomous Administration quickly coordinated their return, but there are major obstacles, especially in occupied areas such as Afrin and Serekaniye (Ras al-Ain), where the return has not actually been implemented."
He added, "Today, there are more than half a million displaced people who have not returned to their areas, despite decisions issued by Damascus. Their return must be facilitated in order to achieve civil peace and open a new page that requires the efforts of all components of the Syrian people."
For his part, intellectual Fadel Al-Ahmad said, "After the agreement that included the return of the displaced to their areas, especially those under the control of the so-called Syrian National Army or the Turkish occupation factions, nothing has changed. Rather, violations have increased, especially against women, amid disturbing international silence."
Al-Ahmad emphasized that the Turkish occupation seeks to gain from the displaced. It used Syrians on its territory as a bargaining chip, using them in the elections to favor Erdogan, and then transporting them to the Syrian areas it occupies to alter their demographics.
Al-Ahmad concluded by saying, "Armed groups and mercenaries are the main obstacle to the return of the displaced," calling on the transitional government to fulfill its obligations and implement the agreement stipulating the safe return of the displaced to their areas.
